From Artificial Sociality to Algocracy
This communication examines the ongoing societal transition from artificial sociality, the integration of AI systems as relational agents within everyday social life, to algocracy, understood as governance supported by algorithmic decision-making.
We argue that as intelligent systems evolve from communicative interfaces to mechanisms that mediate access to information, resources, and rights, they acquire normative functions traditionally associated with political authority.
We discuss how algorithmic systems reshape agency, accountability, and democratic oversight, proposing that algocracy represents not merely technological efficiency but a structural transformation in the locus of power within contemporary societies.

Is this talk biased?
Machine-learning models don’t exist in a vacuum- they learn from data that reflects real-world assumptions, patterns and inequalities.
In this session, we explore what bias is, how it appears in machine-learning models, and why it matters. Through concrete examples and exploratory data work, we will learn how to recognize bias and reflect on its broader societal impact.
The goal is to foster a critical and curious mindset: questioning data and models, understanding their limitations, and thinking about what to do once bias is identified.
